NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Sunday School Curriculum Committee, a part of Onward Media, is excited to share an update with the church! In the past year, our dedicated team of authors, reviewers, coordinators, and illustrators across our congregations have written over 300 preschool through 12th-grade lessons. Nearly 500 lessons have been written in the last two years! This is a testimony of God's faithfulness and the hard work of our volunteers. Please thank those in your congregation who have been contributing!

We aim to write the remaining 220 lessons by December 2025 and have the finished product ready afterward. However, you can access these lessons in their current format on our website. To finish, we need additional authors and reviewers: ten volunteers in high school, four in junior high, and two in first and second grade. Additional help for general review, copyright, and apologetics would also be appreciated. We need brothers and sisters willing to spend 2-5 hours a week writing and reviewing lessons that come alongside our families in teaching who God is, what he has done, and how he wants our students...the future of our church...to live.

For more information about the project watch this video and visit our website (https://www.apostolicchristian.org/curriculum-project). To volunteer, please sign up via this link or at our website by January 19. Please continue to pray God directs this work and brings us the volunteers we need.

LETTER FROM ALTADENA, CA CHURCH:

Greetings to you from Altadena, in the name of Jesus!

We have been overwhelmed this past week with the shock and devastation of high winds and uncontrolled fire that has wreaked havoc on our community. We are also overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and care and prayer and offers of support from across our land.

Some of you have lived here, some of you have buried loved ones here, many of you have visited us. There are lots of memories of the joys and sorrows, of the worship and fellowship we’ve shared.

We believe that God is sovereign, that nothing happens outside of His control and that to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. As our congregation has become smaller over the years, we have asked the Lord for insight as to what the future holds for our church. On Tuesday, driving up the hill through the confusion of disaster, passing block after block of smoldering ruins, I turned and was amazed at the sight…our church building, standing there, untouched. The sight took my breath away and moved me to a sense of deep humility and gratitude. Today, we are thankful to be here, for such a time as this.

Right away our minds can go to restoring and rebuilding or blaming and politicizing.  However, our community is full of precious souls, made in the image of God and our primary need is prayer.

So we ask that you join us. Pray that hearts and marriages and relationships and lives can be reborn, repaired and restored by the grace of God. Pray that in the name of Jesus, we can carry on His ministry… to proclaim good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, and to comfort all who mourn. Pray that the Holy Spirit will help us know how to share the light and love and life of Christ with our hurting community.

Also, pray with us for discernment on how to help address imminent material needs. HarvestCall has reached out and we are making a list of those with whom we have current relationships that have suffered loss and need assistance.

Donations can be made to the HarvestCall Disaster Fund/Altadena.

Love, grace and peace to you all,

Tom Klotzle and the Altadena/Los Angeles church

The Goodfield HarvestCall representatives are looking for an individual, either a brother or a sister, to take over the responsibility for Goodfield's HarvestCall kit assembly. We currently assemble Midwest Health Kits twice a year during Family Hymn Sings. Please see Sis. Carrie Blunier if you are interested or have questions. We want to thank all of you who were able to participate in our small group discussions this past Wednesday and on October 15th. We are compiling all of the notes and sorting them to identify common themes or thoughts. These summaries will be handed off to a building exploration committee and will be used to guide their discussions around the scope, feasibility, and desires of the church family. We do want to reiterate some points to keep us all on the same page. 1. This discussion began with the trustees identifying several building upgrades that need to be done in the near future. As good stewards, we do not want to spend any money on our facility without exploring all options. 2. We want the church’s input on any large decisions. We felt that these discussions gave us an opportunity to really hear the church in a way that was healthier than an anonymous survey. 3. We also recognize that some decisions will be made that will disappoint some. We will never all agree on the scope of the project, colors or styles of carpet, etc. If we decide to do nothing with our facility, that will disappoint some. We just ask for grace and patience as individuals and committees work through decisions. 4. The ministry team was involved in helping lead the small group discussions but that will largely end our involvement in this process. Our role is the preaching of God’s Word, nurturing of souls, and guiding the spiritual growth of the congregation. We should not let those efforts be negatively impacted by a building project. We will help in identifying the initial exploration committee and then we will be fairly hands off at that point other than helping with some communication. 5. We recognize that there was some angst around the discussion of church planting. It is an uncomfortable topic. For clarity, we are not exploring a church plant at this time. Our Apostolic Christian Church, and many other churches, has recognized that building bigger and bigger churches is not following the pattern of the early church. There are challenges when a church gets too big, just as there are challenges when a church is too small. It is healthiest when the conversations around a healthy church plant begin 5 to 10 years before it becomes necessary. It may never become necessary in Goodfield. However, the only way it will never become a need, is if we become stagnant or shrink. We don’t want that. NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: HarvestCall’s next large-scale Rebuilding Ministry project will be in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. This Thursday, October 16th we will have a singing and activity night at the Eureka AC home upstairs activity room at 6:30 PM - It has been several years since our church family has been actively involved with the Eureka AC home residents, and we would like to rekindle that and continue to support our church family who reside there. The stewardship committee talked with the residents, and they said they desired a mixture of singing, and conversing or playing games with our church family. We’ve decided to have a 15-to-20-minute time of singing around the piano together. And then the rest of the time would be for conversing or playing games together. We will have tables with games set up. We plan to have these evenings 4 times per year on a Thursday evening. We look forward to spending time with our loved ones at the Eureka AC Home. Please contact Bro. Derek or Sis. Joy Roth with any questions. It is Goodfield’s turn to have Sunday morning services at the Eureka AC Home each Sunday in October. LOCAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: There are some dishes on kitchen counter that haven’t been claimed for over a month… they’ll be taken to goodwill if they’re still there at the end of this month. The Eureka Home Auxiliary would like to thank the Goodfield congregation for their prayers, financial support, and help. This year’s Family Fest was a great success. We praise God! When we approved the changes to our bylaws a couple of months ago, a portion of the packet that you were given to approve was accidentally left out when it was sent to the state of Illinois. By state law, to add that portion to our bylaws and constitution that is registered with the state, we must vote again. They consider this a new submission even though we approved the bylaws and constitution in its entirety. We plan to vote again on the same packet right after morning church on October 26th. We will give opportunity for the Sunday School teachers to vote as well. If you remember, we need 60% of the membership to vote to make it official. Thank you for your patience yesterday as we tried cafeteria style church lunch. Here are a few points to remember: · We are not insinuating that we are switching to this style of serving lunch. It has been suggested numerous times as many other AC churches are offering it, and we need to be open to the possibility. · As we analyze our facility and try to plan for the future, we need to see current and potential pain points. Some things have to be experienced and not just imagined. · If we choose to offer this style of serving in the future, it will be decided by a committee using the information that we collect this fall. Constructive feedback is critical. Please be aware that any feedback that is shared will be copied into a shared document word for word for various committees to sort and organize. · Until a building committee chairperson is designated, you can send your feedback to Bro. Jeff Wiegand at successbyservice@gmail.com . For our Goodfield church visioning and building remodel project, we will have a small group discussions on Wednesday, November 5th in place of our regular service.
